80+ Years of Tradition

Extraordinary educator and political leader Mary McLeod Bethune founded NCNW in 1935 and envisioned it to be an "organization of organizations" that would represent the national and international concerns of Black women.

Today, the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) is a council of 39 affiliated national African American women's organizations and over 240sections - connecting nearly 4 million women worldwide!

Meet Our N-Sisters

NCNW is the "organization of organizations". It is a space for sisters to come together in the spirit of service and unity. N-sisters are members of many organizations on campus, yet they understand the need for a space where we can work collectively.

"I am my mother's daughter, and the drums of Africa still beat in my heart. They will not let me rest while there's a single Negro boy or girl without a chance to prove his worth"

-Mary McLeod Bethune

"I want to be remembered as someone who used herself and anything she could touch to work for justice and freedom....I want to be remembered as one who tried."

-Dorothy Height
